Set field default value (Cloud)
In Jira, you can configure default values for your fields. When creating an issue, the field will automatically be populated with the value previously selected. Setting a default value for a Multi-Level Cascading Select field in Cloud instances can be more challenging compared to Data Center instances. This is due to rendering limitations associated with the MLCS custom field type.
To set a default value, these are the steps you need to follow:
Get the value (ID) of the options you want to set as default.
On the Administration page, click on Export options.
Open the JSON configuration and find the options you want to set as default.
This is an example of a JSON configuration. “Value” is the name of the option (label), “id” is the option ID (value).
Navigate to the “Edit default value” page (Issues → Custom fields → Context and default value → Edit default value). Here, you will need to enter a JSON structure, where “Label” is the name of the option (priorly called Value), and “Value” is the option ID (priorly called id).
Here is an example of the structure to insert in the text area to set the default values:
{ "lv0": { "label": "1", "value": "8c371a3c6af7" }, "lv1": { "label": "1.2", "value": "06fe711b8ba8" } }
lv(n)
represents the level of the option, starting from 0 for root options. Each child option increments the level by one, indicating its position in the hierarchy. There is no limit to the levels of options you can set as default value.Label
is the name of your option. Change it accordingly.Value
is the option ID that you have retrieved in point 1. Update the value with the ID.
Click “Set default“.
